I really like this film, especially this scene. It splits the screen in two showing the expectations and reality of Tom's night. This whole film is pretty quirky in the way it's done with the old style black and white parts, the narration with a sort of david lamb voice over (come dine with me) and the animations it does throughout the 500 days of summer. Here's the clip i found from the film, i'm gonna try this out one time, the camera angles reflect off his emotions such as the long shot for him being distant, to the zoom in of him filling up his drink to get through the night.
