There's three options to choose from -
• Fairytale Cottage or Small Tower or Fairytale Setting
( some ideas – Red Riding Hood Cottage, Rapunzel’s Tower, Gingerbread House, Small Treasure Island )
• Crashed UFO site
( some ideas – Area 51 Desert, ‘B Movie’ Forest setting, The Moon )
• A Reconstructed Historical Section of Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds – Serious Game Application
( some ideas – The Church, Guest House, Cloisters )
I love them all :( Annabeth said to us basically that we could think outside the box like for example it didn't have to be a fairytale like red riding hood it could be a fairy tale that we could make up ourselves so the brief is pretty open.
We started by opening unity and doing a few exercises to figure out the buttons and make a simple room then make a simple shipyard, we then went onto a little bit of texturing but i found that a little hard to keep up with at first. I'm sure i'll be fine though, i have a really good feeling about Unity - think i may have found my calling here. I've always been fascinated by environments and big open world play games such as Morrowind and Skyrim. I love nothing more in a game them a good old fashioned scenery that takes your breath away.
I took notes from what she was saying and she made a lot of good points -
- Think about the background story - this should reflect the environment
- draw a sketch/maya or even make a model to get a better idea of your environment
- mood boards - a few but not loads - especially not in the PP presentation!!
- Follow the book - 'The computer game design course'
I went to the library and got 2 books out to help me on my way through these next few months, my first steps are gonna be the background, i'll think of quite a few ideas and then narrow it down making 3 ideas strong. Then for the presentation i can get feed back and see which idea people will think work best. I'm sure by this point though i'll know which one i'll like best, i have a few already :)
So here's what we did today anyway - screenshots of step by steps i did and some of the tutorials we did
