first try on a wacom pen tablet

I <3 them. If i had £500 to spare i'd go out and buy one right now. Really enjoyed using this piece of equipment and defo gonna keep using it. I like the shortcuts and how its like your actually sketching something on paper, like how hard you press an stuff. Here's what i did on it. :D

So above are the skectches i started early for my storyboard, i knew what i was going to do in my story board early so i drew out the different faces of my fish. I found the tablet easy to use after my tutorial and think for a first go it was pretty damn ok.

here's the little bits.... the ball, crying faces, i tried him in yellow and crazyyyyy eyed. I liked the yellow but i'm gonna try other colours too and put him in illustrator.

inspiration for my creature's transformation

heres some of the cute creatures from films and animations i've found that snap and turn into something evil. I think i'm gonna go down this route, create a sidekick or small creature that's so damn cute then something happens maybe they get angry or they eat a certain food, then BAM!
A totally different side to the character is seen. (I've been thinking also about maybe having a cute creature which morphs into there proper form maybe a human or a bigger beast or an alien.)

Hellboy 2 - The toothfairies

the pixies are a great example of a transforming cute creature there're drawn simply and transform with facial reactions and teeth. It doesn't really take alot to transform i think. Unless your the hulk, then your fucked.

Galaxy Quest - Blue demon babies

 Earthworm Jim - Peter puppy

The incredibles - Jack Jack

Photoshop induction

So yesterday we had our photoshop induction, i went with an openmind and really was very egar to learn all the stuff i didn't know.
- It was alot!  :)
we were taught about shortcuts, droplets, medium filters, photo merging, colour gamuts, loads.
Even though it was 5 hours long i enjoyed it, looking forward to Illustration induction next week.
Here's my first attempt at making an environment with the images simon wanted us to use and the new techniques he taught us.

Crash course animation book scans- animation research #1

Here's one of the books i borrowed from the library for research.
'crash course animation book' This book was really informative and interesting, techniques on how to draw faces, lines, rules of animation etc...
I found the rules of animation helpful for my flipbook. Such as squash and stretch and thwacks and stars.
I tried out some of these techniques in my sketchbook.

What makes something cute?

I scanned this page in from my book I wanted to draw my character cute, so i looked into the attributes of what makes something cute, i found this great website which shows drawings how to etc...
http://vector.tutsplus.com/articles/theory/the-elements-of-cute-character-design/
I found some cute yu-gi-oh cards and drew skecthes from them which make them cute. Big eyes, little cheeks, small bodies.
sad. but true.

Sketch of minion

Here's my little drawing of minion, I think I'm starting to like the idea of designing a cute character over the other two. Minions a sidekick who the audience grow to love and normally doesn't die. I'd like to create a character that's makes you go awwwwwww. Or a character that makes you go awwww then snaps and turns into a vicious creature. Afew good examples of this would be
- hellboy 2, the blue pixie fairies
- galaxy quest, the little children things
- earthworm jim, Peter puppy
(I'll get some images of these on here next)

'Design a Character that fits into one of the Seven Archetypes'

Ok so I'm 100% sure i wanna do Finn my cute little fish :)
here's a pic of him

I'm now writing out my character sheet, thinking about his background, his likes dislikes, what's his goals etc...
I also need to pick an archetype for him. We had a presentation on them which was instructive and interesting. I can choose one of these seven. Shadow, Hero, Trickster, Shapeshifter, Herald, Guardian and Mentor.
Since i've been looking at minion alot and watching megamind ALOT. I kind of wanted to go down the route of the guardian. But seen as Finn is a companion and he transforms when he's angry he cant really be a guardian because there supposed to keep there cool. (like minion does) But cause he gets out of control he's got to be a trickster. Someone who can be mischievous and have a humor element. I think Trickster suites him very well.

Here's my character sheet of him

cute character research

research into characters that interest me. (Shadow archetypes)

i like prince nauda's weapon choice, a large spear, we found some spear heads upstairs in the egyptian exhibition at the royal armories. Just shows how history's in everything.
here's some more pics of him looking evil as you do.
I think my character if i choose to do an evil man will wear makeup like him,
makes him look like there's more too him. Like the eyes too.

tenchi muyo women -
here's some images from tenchi muyo i like the anime style although i dont think im gonna go down this route. It's hard to stop drawing anime style when you start i think. I do like her costume in the picture below, the colours work very well. eye catching and appealing.
