research for storyboarding number 2 - graphic novels/comic books

I looked into comics and graphic novels and how're there good for films cause there like already storyboards, i like the example above, kickass, nice colours, bright fits well.
Thos os from a magazine called CLINT i thought id cut this out stick it in my book an scan it in here to just show that i've been looking at storyboarding development.

Studio brief 4 - final floor plan, elevations and concept art

above - my floor plan of the house that he lives in i scanned this is and then went over it in illustrator i included the sofas, tankd and dining room table, he doesnt really need much... he's a fish.

A and B floor elevations.

here's the final floor elevations for his house.
On the left see it from the side measurements are in my book cause the scanning in kept slicing off them no matter how hard i tried.
one the right see the front side same on the back and vis versa. Measurements again are in my book.
I found it really good to sketch these then scan in and go over i find the process easier to do it from my hand to paper than on the computer.

here is the floor plan for the fish tank above and the elevation plan, it seems simple but obviously it is a fish tank... 1st image is the side elevation measurements are in my book.
Second image is floor plan, see the house, garden, and transporting  tank devise.

here's the front elevation. just a simple fish tank.

i wanted to do his fathers sushi restaurant concept art so here i went over my scanned images. If i had more time, wait scrath that, if i would have made more time i would have crated a logo for his fathers restaurant :)

scanned in roughs of floor plans, elevations, two point perspective and concept art

so heres scanned images in of the house, sushi restaurant, fish bowl and tank. I wanted to do a bit more for extra credit but because of the lack of poor time management i didn't have enough time.
I liked my concept art all the way, how i developed it from the pictures i took in the first brief to the last ultimately. I put in a transformer pipe to make it possible to take finn to his fathers sushi restaurant any time he likes. I tried to make his environment suite his background and personality and i think i did that pretty well in all in all.

Studio brief 3 - flip book animation

environment / set research design also testing out which colours work

I found this in the library - floor plan

I like the silver but i think red works better as an angry colour for FINN. I also like the eyes of the first one it works well and gives him a crying feeling. I don't like the patterned ones, he looks silly.

environment/ set research design

this is a scanned in image of concept artists i started looking at for environments. The question i kept asking was ' how could my environment it my backgrounds character'
So i looked at batman for example- he's dark mysterious, messed up, alone. as showed above he's in a dark alley, alone, dingy.
Kung fu panda's background suites him too as in his heritage, where she lives Japan, this links to my character too x

animation research #4 tortorro

he

this is tortorro, a Japanese anime i relate to my character.
He's cute, the colour's work, he's from japan. It's simple shapes like my finn a round shape with a few triangles, anime is mostly like this in things like spirited away or the girl who travelled through time.  IK like this kinda style of animation.

animation research #2

bugs bunny and youtube vid opera doc

Chuck Jones:

Chuck Jones was the last surviving giant from the golden era of Warner Bros. animation, a period that lasted from roughly 1935 to 1959. Chuck Jones was a master at creating expressive characters, including Road Runner, Wile E Coyote and Daffy Duck. Among his many achievements, one masterpiece was 1957's "What’s Opera, Doc?" featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Chuck Jones, who died in 2002, once said an animator is "an actor with a pencil."

link- an animation of bugs bunny, i'm sure you will remember it from your childhood, i do.

I really like this old guy historical animation stuff, he's created a character that lives on longer then he did even thought he died 50 years ago. Thats something that not many people can create an i respect that. Always liked bugs bunny and warner bros, here characters relate to mine in a cute way and how there a trickster.

George Fan is the mastermind behind PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies, a game that's often been described as "crazy." (Crazy good, crazy addictive... or just plain crazy. It's all accurate.) We spoke to George about Plants vs. Zombies, his previous PopCap project Insaniquarium, and what kind of hidden object game he would make if he could.
Zombies are unofficially considered “taboo” in casual games (along with ninjas and robots!), but Plants vs. Zombies has gotten a great response from both the hardcore and the casual crowd
What were some of the games that influenced Plants vs. Zombies?

The 3 biggest game influences were:
Warcraft III Tower Defense - inspired the whole idea stationary turrets gunning down hordes of enemies
Insaniquarium - the resource system is lifted straight from this game. Also, the new plants are drip-fed to you at the same pace as Insaniquarium's pets, and you choose plants in a similar fashion to how you choose your pets at the beginning of each level of Insaniquarium.
Tapper - the idea of multi-tasking five different lanes of your lawn is similar to the gameplay of this old arcade game

Tapper - this old arcade game helped to inspire Plants vs. Zombies.

The team must have had a blast coming up with all the characters. What zombies and plant types are you most proud of?

I like that the torchwood (the fiery tree-stump that ignites peas) makes you think about how your plants interact with each other. The cob cannon took a long time to design due to us coming up with so many variations in the search for the ultimate version. I think we landed somewhere good with that, though.
And the tall-nut just has so much character, standing there with his determined gaze, just shedding a single tear when hurt. My girlfriend can't bear to see that, so she immediately protects one with a pumpkin always. Keeping those pumpkins around the tall-nuts seems more important to her than passing the level sometimes.

As for zombies, the pole-vaulting zombie is awesome for the sheer hilarity that takes place when I'm watching someone play for the first time. They always wonder "What is that guy going to do with his stick?" as they place a wall-nut down in hopes of blocking him, only to have the wall-nut promptly vaulted over.

I like this kinda research because it's an app. It's different to a game. This shows how he's got from one research to another and created this game that EVERYOne plays. They really do... I like the fact that its a simple complex, something you could do or play for hours, characters you could look at and think damn, thats cute, or damn thats cool. Characters you want to see and play with.

concept artists/illustrators who create characters #4

[

heres i looked into assassins creed they really look into background research these guys i saw this clip on xbox live but i cant find it on youtube. So i started to think about my background more and what costumes he may or would wear. What props he'd carry with him all the time. I came up with a Japanese headband with chop sticks and a top knot. I like lil' guy i would develop on this more if i had the time.

From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.

Ken Sugimori in September, 2010
Ken Sugimori (Japanese: 杉森 建, born January 27, 1966) is a friend of Satoshi Tajiri and illustrator of the original artwork forPokémon games. He also has developed conceptual artwork for the movies, and illustrates TCG cards and merchandising.
Sugimori's change of style over the years has been noticeable. Initially, he used a stiff, lightly shaded style that was very reminiscent of the early works of Akira Toriyama. However, in recent years, his drawings of people and creatures have had more muscle definition, shading, and more natural and fluid poses.
The character in the Pokémon anime, Kenji (called Tracey Sketchit in the dub), may be an homage to him, especially as both enjoy creating art. This is similar to the way Satoshi (called Ash Ketchum in the dub) is named after Satoshi Tajiri.

I researched into Pixar because they create alot of characters for kids and my fish is cute so thats for kids really...
These were by one of the animators Gina - she did work in Finding Nemo and The incredibles, i like her word i think it relates to my work very well being fish and thinking what i could grow mine into.
I also fund from pixar this. It's pretty darn cool...

I found this for my character design research the people who made YU GI OH. I looked into there cute characters by them. Big eyes, toon monsters, colours etc...
I think these guys have a great idea for cute characters and know what they need to create them.
I really like these guys how're there anime style but not, mixed with basic shapes and colours that mix well with everything else.

STORYBOARD

Here's my storyboard of my work up board and animation flip book page, i put them together because i wanted to show the development fully. I started this early on and found it easy to think up a good storyboard. I thinks that because i researched alot in the library at this time and found alot on cute things like walle Pixar stuff. I enjoyed doing story boarding like i have done before.

Storyboard research #1 - the art of walle. Simple shapes!

i looked into walle alot this module and i realized that most cute characters are just simples shapes really. Take walle for example. He's a square and two triangles thats it and what do you add, big eyes?
So i liked the concept art from this book it was really informative and pretty, it taught me alot about how to portray my character as in the size and things so i went with the idea of my angry bird's size.
